Ottawa University Threatens Ann Coulter With Hate Speech Prosecution

... and this before she even sets foot in Canada! THIS is Canada, circa 2010.

And this is Canada's theme song (to the tune of Santa Claus is Coming to Town):

You better watch out
You better not cry
Better not pout
I'm telling you why
Speech Po-leese iz coming to town

They're making a list
And checking it twice;
Gonna find out
Who's naughty and nice
Speech Po-leese iz coming to town

They sees you when you're sleeping
They knows when you're awake
They knows if you've been bad or good
So be good for goodness sake!
O! You better watch out!
You better not cry
Better not pout
I'm telling you why
Speech Pol-eese is coming to town
Speech Pol-eese is coming to town

UPDATE: Mark Steyn weighs in and labels it a Pre-Crime. Drat! While I'm Santa Clausing my way through this, he comes up with the pithy, punchy pre-crime prescription. This explains why he is Mark Steyn, and I'm not.

Tell the UofO that you will never donate any money to the University, any of its schools or endowment funds, never enroll or enroll your children and refuse to hire any graduates from their institution if they don't take a stand for Free Speech.

Thank you for your comment. Ironically, the U of O guy thought he was supporting Free Speech --

"We have a great respect for freedom of expression in Canada, as well as on our campus, and view it as a fundamental freedom, as recognized by our Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms."

The operative words here are "as recognized...". Courts get to rule on these rights, which means they can be upheld, diminished, or abrogated at the pleasure of the courts. And, pleasure here is a euphemism for "whims".

If he really believed in freedom of expression, he would have wrote, "please feel free to say whatever you wish -- you are in Canada, you are free to do so, and the courts are here to protect your right to do so. The fact that he threatens legal action shows what he believes the function of the courts to actually be.

Paraphrasing the Good Book

To a hater all things are hatred.

"... nothing intellectually compelling or challenging.. bald assertions coupled to superstition... woefully pathetic"
