Quote of the Day: "Three Enduring Gaps"

a few years after the big bangImage by gari.baldi via Flickr
Arguments from design are not intended to be "proofs". Nor are they arguments from ignorance. They simply draw attention to the three "enduring gaps" that are called out in Genesis chapter one with the word "created".
1: God created the heaven and the earth. This gives us a clue that we won't be able to explain the Big Bang using the tools available to us. Surprise! We can't.
2: God created life. Once again, abiogenesis is a discipline with very little going for it beyond speculation. The more we know about the cellular machinery, the less feasible the speculation becomes.
3: God created man in His own image. Indeed, the more we hear that man is "just" another ape, the more the scaffolding of that argument (i.e., the internet, publishing, podcasts, video, language, etc) defeat it.
-- Doug,  in the Comments section of a blog post, here.

Critics dismiss some theistic arguments as "god of the gaps", however, in the case of these three "enduring gaps" -- great phrase, Doug! -- it is not what we don't know, it is what we do know.  Everything that begins to exist must have a sufficient cause and reason -- and the only sufficient explanatory cause for "us" is God.

Next you'll be telling us YOU and only you know what the almighty thinks.
Sounds familiar, are us non- believers to be put to death?

Give it a rest already, no-one really cares about your little war between creationist, devine designers and the evolutionists..!!!

Find a Liberal forum to spout your crap, at least they might argue with you, we simply don't care.

Are you actually a conservative or are you here on Blogging Tories, deliberatly trying to make all conservatives look like the religious fanatic you are pretending to be.?

Get lost.!

If you were, would that be "wrong"? Without God, there is no basis for right-and-wrong, good-and-evil -- it's all just molecules in motion in an amoral universe.

So, you can get in a froth, but the only rational basis for doing so is if you believe that God exists and the universe is intrinsically moral.

As A protestant, my faith is within me, it doesn't need displaying, I'll face my maker at my death without any trepidation.

Unlike Catholics, who have confessed, and been given false forgivness from an earthly human who believes another human has given him the right to forgive sins.
Or Muslims who believe killing infidels, is the path to rightousness.
The protestant religion is the only religion that allows its followers to TRUST in faith.
All others demand their followers display their faith, through killing, confession, whatever.!

My guess is your a catholic, have you killed anyone since your last forgiving confession?
Just curious!

We are to trust in Christ, not faith.

Nope.

You do believe, I presume, in the book of James, where, as an act of humbling and restoration, we are commanded to confess our faults to one another?

Christ said if we confess him before others, he will confess us before his Father in heaven. So, as a minimum, we are to bear verbal witness, which is really all I am trying to do.

With your help, I may be able to do it a bit better!
